Privacy Policy
How we handle your information, in plain language.
Last updated: [EFFECTIVE DATE]
The short version
- We collect what we need to send passes between friends and run spots near school.
- We never sell your personal information.
- Spots see your first name when you claim a pass. Brands only ever see totals.
- Location is used to show spots near your school, and you can turn it off.
- Optional cookies on our website are off until you say yes.
- You can see, change or delete your information any time.
Who we are
Givigy is an app that lets students send one friend a free pass to a spot near school. It is run by Minted Labs LLC, [COMPANY ADDRESS] ("Givigy", "we", "us"). This policy explains what information we collect, why, and the choices you have. It covers the Givigy app and this website.
What we collect
Information you give us
- Account details: your name, phone number or email, and your school.
- Friends: the friends you add in the app. If you invite someone who isn't on Givigy yet, we use their contact details only to send that invite.
- Passes: which spot you picked, who you sent a pass to, and any note you add.
- Messages to us: anything you send when you contact us or fill in a form, such as the launch partner form for businesses.
- Optional answers: for example, whether you'd tried a product before after a Brand Drop.
Information created when you use Givigy
- Pass activity: when a pass is sent, opened, claimed and used at a spot.
- Approximate location: to show spots near your school. If you allow precise location on your phone, we use it only to show spots near you and to confirm you're at a spot when you claim a pass. You can turn it off in your phone's settings.
- Device and usage information: app version, device type, crash reports and how features are used.
- Cookies and similar tools on our website: see Cookies below.
How we use it
- To run Givigy: create your account, deliver passes, show the 24-hour timer and tell you when a friend claims one.
- To show you spots near your school, including the Friday Drop.
- To let spots confirm and count passes at their counter, and to bill them for claimed passes.
- To keep Givigy safe: preventing fake accounts, abuse and pass misuse.
- To understand what's working and improve the app, using analytics only where you've allowed it on the website.
- To contact you about your account, and, if you agree, about new spots and drops. You can turn these messages off any time.
- To meet legal obligations.
Where the law requires a legal basis, we rely on running our agreement with you, our legitimate interest in running and improving Givigy safely, your consent (for example for optional cookies and marketing), and legal obligations.
How long we keep it
We keep your account information while your account is open. Pass history is kept for [RETENTION PERIOD] so spots can be billed correctly and we can handle questions. When you delete your account, we delete or anonymize your personal information within [NUMBER] days, except where we must keep it for legal, tax or safety reasons.
Your choices and rights
- See and correct your information in the app, or ask us for a copy.
- Delete your account in the app settings, or by emailing us.
- Turn off location, notifications and marketing messages in your phone settings or the app.
- Change cookie choices in cookie settings.
Depending on where you live, you may have more rights, such as objecting to some uses, restricting them, or moving your data to another service. California residents have the right to know, delete and correct their information and to not be discriminated against for using these rights. Students in the UK and EU can also complain to their local data protection authority. To use any of these rights, email [PRIVACY EMAIL].
Young people
Givigy is not for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from them. If you are under the age of adulthood where you live, you need a parent or guardian's permission to use Givigy. Some passes, like Brand Drops for certain products, may have age limits, and we show them only to people old enough. If you think a child under 13 has given us information, contact us and we will delete it.
Keeping it safe
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information, such as encryption in transit and limited staff access. No system is perfectly secure, so please keep your login details private and tell us right away if you think your account has been misused.
Where we process data
We and our providers may process information in [COUNTRY] and other countries. Where we transfer information from places with data transfer rules, such as the UK or EU, we use approved safeguards.
Changes to this policy
If we make important changes, we'll tell you in the app or by email before they take effect. The date at the top shows when this policy last changed.
